TRYOUTS FOR 2026-27 TEAMS
NOTE ON AGE GROUP REALIGNMENT FOR 2026-27
Based on US Soccer's adjustment to a grade-based system, players will try out for and play on CYSC teams according to their grade, regardless of birth year. For the handful of current CYSC players who had been playing on a CYSC team up a grade because of their birth year, we will discuss the tryout option to continue with their current team or play with their grade.

The Program and Commitment:
Cost of the Program
There are several separate components to the program cost:
Playing Time Expectations:
Playing time rules for players that regularly attend practices and games and participate in a constructive manner.
Tryouts:
CYSC will be holding tryouts for their 2026-2027 Travel Teams for interested players entering grades 2-8 in the 2026-27 school year. (Rising 2nd and 3rd grade players should also refer to the "U8/U9 PROGRAM INFO" tab above).
- The program is a 10-month commitment to competitive soccer, running from September through the end of June. To be eligible, players must be students attending Chappaqua Schools or living in the Town of New Castle.
- Most of our teams play in the Westchester Youth Soccer League (WYSL). A few of our premier teams play in the North Atlantic Divisions of New York Club Soccer League (NYCSL), which is part of the EDP.
- All teams will practice with a professional trainer in the Fall and Spring.
- All teams will play games on Sundays that can take place in Westchester, Putnam, Rockland Counties and New York City. (Teams playing the EDP and/or premier level teams may play games on Saturdays and/or Sundays.) There are typically 9-10 games in the Fall and another 9-10 games in the Spring, with half played on our home fields, and half played away.
- Each team will practice for at least two 1.5-hour sessions per week. Some of our teams opt for a third training session.
- Teams should expect to participate in at least one fall tournament and at least one spring tournament.
- Optional programs for teams and players can include:
- A 5-day CYSC Preseason Camp, which typically runs the 5 days preceding Labor Day weekend (3 hours per day). Over 85% of our players participate in this camp.
- Winter practices on indoor turf and winter game schedules differ by team and are STRONGLY encouraged, but not required.
- Skills clinics to build conditioning, additional skills and confidence on the ball
- Weekly free goalkeeper clinics
- Indoor winter futsal (newly added in 2025-26)
Cost of the Program
There are several separate components to the program cost:
- Club registration fees of $400, due upon your acceptance of a spot on the team: This support’s the club’s overhead (league registration fees, insurance, tryout expenses, field rentals, etc., as well as some of our clinics).
- Uniforms: CYSC player kits (that were new for the 2024-25 season) will remain the same style for one more season in 2026-27 before the club switches to a new style. If you are a returning player, you do not need to order a new kit. The cost of individual pieces varies, but an entirely new uniform kit (all required pieces for practices and games) for new players will cost approximately $160.
- Team Dues: This is the cost to support the team expenses of fall and spring practices, games and tournaments. This varies by team/age, but runs approximately $1,200-$1,800. Participation in winter programs is a separate cost. As your acceptance of your child's spot on a team represents a 10-month commitment to playing soccer for your team, all players on a team support the full fall and spring costs, regardless of availability to play in a particular tournament or season. Managers may collect full team fees up front; regardless of whether your manager opts to split the fees into seasons, by joining the team, you are committing to supporting your full share of team costs for the fall and spring season.
- The optional programs described above typically carry additional costs. CYSC Pre-Season Camp (dates TBA) will be offered at a discount to players who enroll at the same time they accept their invitation to play.
- All winter programs (indoor training on turf, indoor games and indoor futsal) are optional at an additional cost.
Playing Time Expectations:
Playing time rules for players that regularly attend practices and games and participate in a constructive manner.
- U8-U10: Minimum playing time is 40%.
- U11: Minimum playing time is 25%.
- U12-U14: Minimum playing time is 25%; but if the team is D1 or Premier, there will be no playing time minimum.
Tryouts:
CYSC will be holding tryouts for their 2026-2027 Travel Teams for interested players entering grades 2-8 in the 2026-27 school year. (Rising 2nd and 3rd grade players should also refer to the "U8/U9 PROGRAM INFO" tab above).
- See the "Tryout Schedule" tab above.
- The tryouts will be run by Club-approved trainers and monitored by CYSC board members.
- All tryout participants must wear a gray or white t-shirt, cleats and shin guards, and bring a ball and plenty of water.
- Current and former CYSC players, as well as current and former players from outside clubs are not permitted to wear any identifiable part of their travel uniforms including their practice jersey to the tryouts.
- Players should plan to arrive at the field 15 minutes prior to the start of the tryouts to check in and receive a number and a pinny. Parents (and other caregivers) will not be permitted to remain at the tryouts. All tryouts will be DROP OFF.
- NEW Players (those that didn't play for the 2025/2026 season) MUST bring a completed WYSL medical release form.
- GOALKEEPER TRYOUTS: players trying out to be a goalkeeper on a U12 (6th grade) or older team are expected to be committed to playing goalkeeper for the entire game for all games, while those trying out for a U10 or U11 team are expected to be willing to play goalkeeper 50% of each game. (There will not be goalkeeper tryouts for U8 and U9 players. Players will typically cycle through the goalkeeper position at those younger age groups so that everyone gains experience). Actual playing time as a goalkeeper will be determined by individual coaches/teams. Goalie tryouts will be held during your child's regular age group tryouts.
- CYSC will stagger the announcement of teams and intends to announce all U8-U14 teams by mid-May.
- Players will have 1 day to accept their invitation to play and pay the non-refundable club registration fee to hold their spot on a team. (Players who fail to accept their invitation during the registration period may lose their spot.)
- The number of teams selected for each age group will depend on the number of players trying out and the caliber of play. The number of teams will also be dependent on the number of players accepting their invitation to play.
- CYSC is a travel club with teams competing to reach a premier level. The purpose of the tryouts is to build rosters in each age group that will be competitive and an appropriate size to create an opportunity for a positive player experience. There is no guarantee there will be more than one team per age group.
- CYSC CANNOT GUARANTEE THAT ONCE A TEAM IS ANNOUNCED ALL OF THE PLAYERS WILL ACCEPT THEIR INVITATION TO PLAY, AND THEREFORE CAN NOT GUARANTEE THE TEAM WILL EXIST UNTIL ALL OF THE INVITED PLAYERS ACCEPT.
Commitment/brief program description:
When can I register for evaluations?
In order to be evaluated, players must register online (see the registration button above). MAKE CERTAIN YOU RECEIVE AN EMAIL CONFIRMATION. There is no cost to be evaluated.
What are the program costs?
The CYSC program costs $400 in registration fees to the club, due upon acceptance to a team, plus additional team dues to support the cost of training, games and tournaments. Uniforms are a separate cost. Optional programs like the preseason camp, winter training and futsal are a separate cost. Players will also be responsible for the cost of their AYSO registration where applicable. Financial aid is available to those who qualify. Please see the "Program/Tryouts Info" tab for an estimate of uniform costs and team dues. Your acceptance of your child's spot on a team represents your full financial commitment to your team's 10 months of soccer that includes a full fall and spring season.
- CYSC is a travel soccer club that competes with teams from other clubs in Westchester, Putnam, Rockland and NYC.
- Our teams are coached by professional trainers. You can check out some of their profiles under The Teams & Trainers tab above.
- Our teams are organized by grade, per a change in the national rule for travel soccer programs.
- Teams play weekly games on Sundays, with 9 or 10 games over the course of the Fall season, and another 9-10 games in Spring. Generally half the games are on our home fields, and half are away (typically within Westchester and occasionally, depending on the makeup of the team's division, the Bronx or Manhattan).
- Teams typically participate in occasional tournaments, generally once in the fall and once in the spring at this age.
- Optional programs include: a 5-day preseason camp (typically before Labor Day); weekly and/or school's out (on days off or half days) skills clinics to help build conditioning, additional skills and confidence on the ball; indoor weekly winter training on turf; and indoor winter futsal over the weekends.
- U9 (3rd grade) travel teams will have TWO weekday or weeknight practices with our trainers (one as a team and one as a group) plus one Sunday travel game. We also strongly encourage U9 players to continue to participate in AYSO on Saturdays as the extra touches on the ball and the opportunity to put your training into practice with a different mix of players is an integral part of player development and confidence-building.
- U8 (2nd grade) travel teams will have ONE weekday or weeknight practice as a group with our trainers plus one Sunday travel game. Registration for Saturday AYSO is a requirement for our U8 players.
- To be eligible to play for CYSC, your child must be a student attending Chappaqua Schools or living in the Town of New Castle.
- At the U8 and U9 level, all registered players will be placed on a team; there will not be cuts (although we will make an "A" team if there are at least 2 teams in the age group.

Tryout schedule for incoming 9th-11th graders:
TBA
The goal of this program is to have competitive level soccer throughout the year, keeping skills high beyond the short fall JV and Varsity season. Our club high school-aged teams will play in either the New York Club Soccer League or the Westchester Youth Soccer League. We strive to minimize conflicts with high school sports, recognizing that many of our players are multi-season athletes at Greeley. This program, however, should not be confused with recreational soccer. Your commitment to attend as many practices and games as your schedule allows is expected. To that end, upon your acceptance of your child's spot on a team, $1,000 will be due to support your registration fees and part of your team's cost for the season, which is non-refundable.
The club program is structured as follows:
Fall Mini-Season: Fall practices will start late in fall after your Greeley soccer season ends. Depending on the formation of our club teams, we might have a mini season of approximately 3 games in November/December.
Winter: Practice at least 1x per week. Unlike our U8-U14 programs, winter practice is an integral part of the high school club experience, and is budgeted for participation by all. We encourage teams to participate in an indoor or futsal league if team availability allows for it.
Spring Full Season: 2 practices during the week (at night) and 8-10 games played mostly on weekends or an occasional Friday night.
Tournaments: We encourage teams to participate in tournaments.
