Whoever said lightning never strikes twice?

3/31/2022

Picture
They never met a team determined to win.  The GU12 Lightning wrapped up their fall season as D1 undefeated champions, their win punctuated by the best defensive record in the division with fewer than 10 goals let up, as well as the highest goal differential.

Going into Armonk Indoor's Super League this winter, the competition was fierce, as the first few weeks brought a series of losses to the Lightning.  The indoor turf was a smaller field with much faster pace, and the team was getting scored on in a way they hadn't been all fall.  But with those losses came a new level of determination to turn things around, and the league results would come down to the two playoff games.  Going into the semifinals, the Lightning, seeded lowest, turned the standings on their head when they pulled off a 3-1 win against the team they had lost 2-5 to the prior week.  The finals then matched the Lightning up against NYCFC.  With 5 minutes left to go, the Lighting were down 0-1.  They scored to tie the game and then dominated the remainder of the game, scoring with just over a minute left to go and hanging on to clutch the 2-1 league victory.

Good luck this spring in the premier division, ladies!  We can't wait to see what you can do.
